prāpya cāśvayuje māsi kṛṣṇapakṣe caturdaśīm /
ahorātroṣito bhūtvā pūjayitvā maheśvaram /
mahāpātakayukto 'pi mucyate nātra saṃśayaḥ //
Reaching the fourteenth day in the dark fortnight of the month of Āśvina, / fasting day and night and having worshipped Maheśvara, / even if possessed of great sins, one is freed—there is no doubt in this.
