nirvṛkṣā nistṛṇā bhūmir nirnirjharasaraḥ sarit /
viśīrṇaśailaśṛṅgaughā kūrmapṛṣṭhopamābhavat //

The earth became devoid of trees and grass, devoid of streams, lakes, and rivers, / its multitude of mountain peaks shattered, resembling the back of a tortoise.
