tatra sthāne purā pārtha devadevena śūlinā /
uddhūlanaṃ kṛtaṃ gātre tena bhūtīśvaraṃ tu tat //
In that place of old, O Pāṇḍava, by the trident-bearing God of gods / smearing of ashes was done on his body; therefore it is indeed called Bhūtīśvara.
