tataḥ kālena mahatā bhṛguṇā paramarṣiṇā /
cāturvidyapramāṇārthaṃ cakāra mahatīṃ sthitim //
Then, after a great length of time, the supreme sage Bhṛgu, / for the sake of establishing authority for the knowers of the four Vedas, made a great arrangement:
