mārkaṇḍeya uvāca:
saṃkṣepāt kathayiṣyāmi sādhyasya caritaṃ mahat /
na hi vistarato vaktuṃ śaktāḥ sarve maharṣayaḥ //
Mārkaṇḍeya said:
I shall narrate in brief the great history of the Sādhya, / for all the great seers are unable to tell it in full detail.
