daśabhirjanmabhirlabdhaṃ śatena tu purākṛtam /
triyugaṃ tu sahasreṇa gāyatrī hanti kilbiṣam //
Recited ten times, Gāyatrī destroys the sin acquired in ten lifetimes; / recited one hundred times, that done in previous lives; and recited a thousand times, [the sins of] three yugas.
