śrīmārkaṇḍeya uvāca:
āścaryabhūtaṃ lokasya devadevena yatkṛtam /
tatte sarvaṃ pravakṣyāmi narmadātaṭavāsinām //

Śrī Mārkaṇḍeya said:
What was done by the God of gods was a wonder for the world;
I will tell all that to you, concerning the dwellers on the banks of the Narmadā.
