purā ṛṣigaṇāḥ sarve sendrāścaiva marudgaṇāḥ /
tāpitā asuraiḥ sarvaiḥ kṣayaṃ nītā hyanekaśaḥ //
In ancient times, all the hosts of ṛṣis, and the hosts of Maruts along with Indra, / tormented by all the asuras, were brought to ruin repeatedly.
