vratairniyamadānaiśca homajāpyavidhānataḥ /
kṛcchracāndrāyaṇairnityaṃ kṛśaṃ kurvankalevaram //
with vows, restraints, gifts, and according to the rites of homa and japa,
constantly emaciating his body with kṛcchra and cāndrāyaṇa penances.
