tāvaddhindhyagirer madhye dānavo baladarpitaḥ /
mayo nāmeti vikhyāto guhāvāsī tapaścaran //
—just then, in the midst of the Vindhya mountain, there was a dānava proud of his strength,
renowned by the name of Maya, dwelling in a cave, practicing asceticism.
