kimarthaṃ kampate śailaḥ kimarthaṃ kampate dharā /
kimarthaṃ kampate nāgo martyaḥ pātālameva ca /
kiṃ vā yugakṣayo deva tanmamākhyātum arhasi //
Why does the mountain tremble? Why does the earth tremble? / Why does the realm of snakes, mortals, and the netherworld tremble? / Or is it the destruction of an age, O God? You ought to tell me that.
