pūrvakalpe nṛpaśreṣṭha krīḍantyā parameṣṭhinā /
umayā saha rudrasya krīḍataścārṇavīkṛtaḥ //
In a former kalpa, O best of kings, as she was sporting with the Supreme Lord, / as Rudra was sporting with Umā, [the world] was turned into an ocean.
