puruṣā ūcuḥ /
tīrthāvagāhanaṃ sarvaiḥ pūrvadakṣiṇapaścimaiḥ /
uttaraiśca kṛtaṃ bhaktyā na pāpaṃ tair vyapohitam //
The men said: / 'Bathing in pilgrimage places in the east, south, west, / and north was done by all of us with devotion, but sin was not removed by them.
