tribhiḥ prasṛtimātrābhiḥ pāpaṃ yāti sahasradhā /
viśeṣeṇa caturdaśyāmubhau pakṣau tu cāṣṭamī //
with just three handfuls, sin is scattered into a thousand pieces; / especially on the fourteenth day and on the eighth day in both fortnights.
