purā tretāyuge jātaṃ tattīrthaṃ skandanāmakam /
niyamena tato lokaiḥ kartavyaṃ liṅgadarśanam //
In ancient times, in the Tretā age, that pilgrimage place known as Skanda arose;
therefore, the beholding of the liṅga should be performed by people with regularity.
