kanyovāca:
kaḥ pitā kathyatāṃ brahmankasyā vā hyudarodbhavā /
kasminvaṃśe prasūtāhaṃ kaivartatanayā katham //
The maiden said: / 'Who is my father? Tell me, O brāhmaṇa, or from whose womb was I born? / In which lineage was I born, and how am I the daughter of a fisherman?'
