Mārkaṇḍeya said:
O son of Dharma, one should then proceed to the excellent Karkaṭeśvara / on the northern bank of the Narmadā, which destroys all sins.

137.2

He who, having bathed there according to the rules, worships Śiva, / his state is irreversible from the world of Rudra, without doubt.

137.3

The glorification of that pilgrimage place which was heard by me in the purāṇa / cannot be fully described; therefore I speak of it in brief.

137.4

Whatever deed, auspicious or inauspicious, one may do at that pilgrimage place, / out of joy or out of delusion, O great king, all of that becomes imperishable.

137.5

Having performed austerities at that pilgrimage place, the Vālakhilyas and Marīcipas / sport even today in the worlds at their own will, O joy of the Kurus.

137.6

Dwellers there do not recognize it, men bereft of knowledge, / just as [they do not perceive] the self abiding in the body, the imperishable, unfading light.

137.7

At that pilgrimage place, O best of kings, the goddess Nārāyaṇī formerly / performed, and even today performs, terrible austerities for an arbuda of years.

A person who, having bathed at that pilgrimage place, offers libations to the ancestors and gods, / his ancestors attain satisfaction for twelve years.
