206.1

The venerable Mārkaṇḍeya said: / Then, O lord of the earth, one should go to the exceedingly lovely pilgrimage place, / known as Daśakanyā, sacred and removing all sins, / created by Mahādeva, which grants the fruits of all desires.

206.2

At that pilgrimage place, Mahādeva chose ten maidens endowed with good qualities / for Brahmā and united them in marriage.

206.3

From then on, that pilgrimage place has been known as Daśakanyā; / it removes all sins, is sacred, and its fruit is declared inexhaustible.

206.4

Whoever gives away a well-adorned maiden at that pilgrimage place, / having given her well-decorated according to his capacity, that man attains [great merit].

206.5

Purified in soul by the religious merit arising from that gift, O king, / they dwell in the presence of Śiva for as many years as the number of hairs [on their bodies].

206.6

Then, after a great length of time, O lord of men, / having attained human birth in this world, which is hard to obtain, he becomes a lord of ten million in wealth.

206.7

Moreover, he who with devotion bathes at that pilgrimage place and gives gold / to a tranquil Brahmin enjoys extreme happiness.

206.8

Whatever [sin] was committed previously, whether of speech, mind, / or born of bodily action, all that vanishes through the gift of gold, O Bhārata.

206.9

A man, having given gold even as little as the tip of a hair / at that pilgrimage place, goes to heaven upon dying; there is no doubt about this.

206.10

Mounted on an excellent celestial chariot, honored by Vidyādharas and Siddhas, / he would dwell there until the universal dissolution.
