Śrī Mārkaṇḍeya said:
Immediately following it, dear one, is the excellent Puṅkhila pilgrimage place;
at that pilgrimage place in ancient times, Puṅkha attained perfection, O son of Pṛthā.
210.2
The son of Jamadagni, of great splendor, the powerful destroyer of kṣatriyas,
having performed immense austerities, stayed on the northern bank of the Narmadā.
210.3
From then on, it is renowned as the Puṅkha pilgrimage place, O ruler of men.
Whoever bathes at that pilgrimage place and worships the Supreme Lord,
210.4
is endowed with strength in this world and obtains liberation in the next;
having worshipped the gods and ancestors, he becomes free of debt to the ancestors.
210.5
That man who gives up his life breaths at that pilgrimage place,
his state is non-returning from the world of Rudra, without doubt.
210.6
A man having bathed at that pilgrimage place would obtain the fruit of a horse sacrifice.
210.7
A man who feeds brahmins at that pilgrimage place, O king—
when a single brahmin is fed, ten million are fed.
210.8
Whoever worships the bull-bannered [god] at that pilgrimage place,
obtains the fruit of the Vājapeya sacrifice without doubt.
