59.1
Glorious Mārkaṇḍeya said:
Then one should go to Puṣkariṇī, the destroyer of all sins,
upon hearing whose power one is freed from all sins.
59.2
On the northern bank of the Revā is an exceedingly splendid pilgrimage place,
where the god, the sun whose form is the Veda, resides eternally.
59.3
Just as Kurukṣetra is holy, fulfilling all desires, and supreme,
so this pilgrimage place is holy, granting the fruit of all desires.
59.4
Just as the [merit of a] gift increases in Kurukṣetra, O lord of the earth,
so a gift increases at Puṣkariṇī; of this there is no doubt.
59.5
Whoever gives even a single barley-grain of gold on the head, O king,
at Puṣkariṇī, his place [in heaven] is remembered as the place [granted] for a man.
59.6
He who, having bathed during a solar eclipse, gives gifts according to rule—
elephants, horses, chariots, jewels, a house, cows, and draught oxen—
59.7
or whoever gives gold or silver to brahmins,
for thirteen days it becomes thirteenfold.
59.8
One should offer libations to the ancestors and gods with water mixed with sesame seeds;
there is satisfaction for twelve years at that pilgrimage place, O king.
59.9
He who performs an ancestral rite there with milk-rice, honey, and clarified butter,
the giver of the rite attains heaven, and what is given to the ancestors becomes imperishable.
59.10
With unhusked barley grains, jujube fruits, bilva fruits, or inguda fruits together with sesame seeds,
one obtains imperishable fruit at that pilgrimage place, no doubt.
59.11
Having bathed there, whoever worships the god, the sun,
and reciting the Ādityahṛdaya, worships Āditya again,
he goes to the supreme realm praised even by the gods.
59.12
Whoever recites one verse of the Ṛgveda, or the Yajurveda, or the Sāmaveda,
he indeed obtains the fruit of the entire Veda, O king.
59.13
Whoever recites the three-syllabled mantra meditating on the sun,
reciting the Ādityahṛdaya, he is freed from all sins.
59.14
Whoever gives up his life-breaths there according to rule, O best of kings,
he goes to the supreme abode where the god, the sun, resides.
