guruṃ praṇamya vakṣyāmi purāṇaṃ vedasaṃmitam //

Having adored Vishńu, the lord of all, and paid reverence to Brahmá and the rest; having also saluted the spiritual preceptor; I will narrate a Puráńa equal in sanctity to the Vedas.
