chando gāyatramākhyātaṃ devatā vāgadhīśvarī .
ādyavarṇaṃ tu bījaṃ syādantyaṃ śaktiḥ samīritā ..
madhyatrayaṃ kīlakaṃ syād vāksiddhyai viniyogakam ..

Gāyatrī is taught as the meter, the deity is the sovereign Goddess of speech;
the first letter is the seed-syllable, and the last is declared the power;
the middle three are the pin, for the application toward accomplishment of speech.”
