So it is. From the cavity of the mouth, the interior of the lotus face, of those who have attained concentration in meditation and acquired the grace of Sarasvatī through the maturation of that creative contemplation, speech (bhāratī), voice consisting of prose, verse, and the like, emerges, issues forth untiringly, effortlessly and without cessation—[speech] having bold and distinct syllables and words, where 'bold' (vikaṭa) means abundant in compounds, endowed with the quality of vigour (ojas), and expansive; or, in the variant reading 'blossoming' (vikaca), radiant with qualities such as clarity (prasāda) and depth (gāmbhīrya) accompanied by verbal and semantic ornaments; and having syllables that are distinct, capable of conveying their respective meanings, and words ending in nominal and verbal affixes that are devoid of defects such as harshness to the ear—how? like the surging, agitated billows of the celestial river: just like the surges, the great waves of the celestial river, the Bhāgīrathī, whose billows are trembling and broken into sprays—such is the meaning: an uninterrupted flow of well-turned sayings issuing forth.
