are gajas; and serpents. On a road accompanied by these, having remembered You, the goddess Kṣemaṅkarī, by that name. 'In a forest-fortress on a mountain': a path difficult to traverse is a forest (kāntāra); on a mountain that is difficult to climb because of that fortress. Remembering You, who have the form of Śabarī, by that name. 'In fear of bhūtas, pretas, piśācas, and jambhakas': bhūtas are the attendants of Rudra; pretas; piśācas; and jambhakas are rākṣasas; when fear arises from them, remembering You, the Great Bhairavī, by that name. 'In bewilderment', when confusion of the mind arises, remembering You, Tripurā, by that name. 'When immersed in water': when a flood (plava), that is, sinking or drowning, occurs in water, or for those who are in a boat (plava) in the midst of a mass of water, remembering You, Tārā, by that name, they cross over misfortunes. We will clarify the manner of reciting these seven names later on. // 17
