Regarding "sprouting with ā and ī": O spouse of Bhairava (bhairavapatni)! Maheśvara, whose nature is light consuming the entire phenomenal world of duality, is Bhairava; his essential nature, having him alone as her abode, delighting only in him, the vibrant flashing consciousness (sphurattā) designated as the supreme power (parāśakti), is the spouse of Bhairava; this is an address to her. "Sprouting with ā and ī" means headed by the sounds "ā" and "ī". "Beginning with ka and ending with kṣa" means by the thirty-five letters from "ka" up to "kṣa"; whatever most secret names of yours there are, "beyond twenty thousand" means amounting to sixty hundred [i.e., six thousand] above twenty thousand [i.e., 26,000], to them homage! The meaning is: even your names alone are worthy of worship because they grant fruit to the reciter even without meditation; how much more then you who possess these names? With what kind of letters? "Preceded by vowels, ending with kṣa": taking the vowel divided sixteenfold as the beginning and going up to the letter "kṣa", "two by two in order" means in the order of two letters each, mutually combined: "a kā ī" and so forth up to "aḥ kā ī"; thus "a khā ī", "a gā ī", "a ghā ī" and so forth up to "aḥ kṣā ī" should be recited.
