there are six thousand: "hrīṃ a kālī hsrī" and so forth. Thus, for each mantra, there are sixty thousand mantras. Now another method: by combining the three seed syllables and the fourfold mātṛkā, when six hundred mantras have arisen with the name Kālī, while remaining on that name, by adding the second among the mantras, there are also six hundred mantras. In this manner, when combining the third and subsequent mantras as well, there are six hundred for each; thus, in combining all the mantras with the name Kālī, there are six thousand designations. In this way, combining them with the names beginning with Kalā as well, here too there would be sixty thousand mantras. A recitation should be performed according to this method even with the names beginning with Lakṣmī mentioned in the previous verse: "hrīṃ a lakṣmī sauḥ" and so forth. There too, in combining the ten mantras with each name, there are forty-two thousand mantras. And thus the mantra regular recitation amounts to sixty-two thousand beyond a hundred thousand [i.e., 162,000]. May all be auspicious. || 18
