raghuvīrapadānuṣaṅgamātrātparibarheṣu niveśitā yadi tvam |
adhikāradine kathaṃ punaste parivārāstava pāduke babhūvuḥ ||
If by merely clinging to the feet of the hero of Raghu's race / you were counted among his personal retinue,
how then, O two sandals, on the day of your assumption of authority, / did they become your retinue?
