So that the ancient beauty of her who lives in love with us perishes, / united with fault because of delusion, / with strength that has surged, bereft of grace, / longing for wealth, O bold heart bent on enterprise! / If you would reflect, listen to my words: / Even if the wheel-commanded wealth of the earth, packed with soil / and surrounded by the three-fold ocean of spreading waves, / were obtained in waking reality without being shared, / its passing away would be just like a dream of the night. Therefore, / wearing mixed blossoms entwined with swarming bees, / the firm, radiant knot of hair resting upon her nape / gives joy where one desires its manifold, gathered fragrances; / embracing her shoulders adorned with crafted, lustrous ornaments, / and turning each time we fall into deep sleep, / never have I witnessed the limit / of that embrace where arms clasp as if bodies merged! / If, transgressing the bounds of my word in your desire for diverse wealth, / you have hardened your will to depart, / when you rest beneath the spotted shade resembling a deer’s back / in the leafless, lovely forest where fierce fire has swept along with the wind, / her unforgettable many qualities will come in love and touch your chest; / unable to hold to one thought, wavering, / in the unfilled long expanse dug by the trampling feet / of a cow-elephant shouting distress for her tusker / with scarred tusks after struggling with a fierce tiger, / lingering there, / will you not weep, weakening as your strength is destroyed?
