Verily he recites the fullness of form. Verily he who is a Vedic student is deprived of fiery energy, of offspring, of cattle, of priestly splendor, and of proper food. In that he does not converse nor look at [anyone], he places fiery energy in himself. In that he converses with and looks at a maiden, he places offspring in himself. In that he converses with and looks at a calf, he places cattle in himself. In that he converses with and looks at the sun, he places priestly splendor in himself. In that he converses with and looks at milk-rice, he places proper food in himself. Moreover, endowed with fiery energy, rich in offspring, rich in cattle, endowed with priestly splendor, and prosperous becomes he who knows thus. 'O giver of life, give me life,' saying this they place life in themselves. [...] while being placed on the fire [...] having placed, he cleanses [...] free from disease. 'O givers of prāṇa, give me prāṇa,' saying this they place prāṇa in themselves. 'O giver of vyāna, give me vyāna,' saying this they place vyāna in themselves. 'O giver of apāna, give me apāna,' saying this they place apāna in themselves. 'O giver of sight, give me sight,' saying this they place sight in themselves. 'O giver of hearing, give me hearing,' saying this they place hearing in themselves. 'O giver of splendor, give me splendor,' saying this they place splendor in themselves. 'Give back to us for life,' saying this they place life in themselves. Moreover, for non-loosening, for non-burning [he says]: 'Homage to Rudra.' The gods indeed excluded Rudra from the sacrifice. He stood leaning on his bow. Indra, in the form of an ant, cut his bowstring. It made the sound 'ghṛṅ'. Its recoil crushed his head. That became the Pravargya. Because the deities are great and valorous, therefore [it is called] Mahāvīra. Because the bow made the sound 'ghṛṅ', therefore [it is called] Gharma. Because it is placed on the fire, therefore [it is called] Pravargya. Therefore, he who sacrifices with a sacrifice accompanied by the Pravargya restores the head of Rudra. Rudra does not become harmful to him who knows thus. [...] These are the bright rites of the bright ones. That is the brightness of the bright ones. With them the gods performed the Pravargya in front of the sacrifice.
