ŚĀ 10.8
He, satisfied—this is that ten-fold agnihotra belonging to the Virāj. Its āhavanīya fire is prāṇa; its gārhapatya fire is apāna; its anvāhāryapacana fire is vyāna; the mind is its smoke; anger is the flame; the teeth are the embers; faith is the milk; speech is the firewood; truth is the oblation; the conscious self is the essence. Thus this ten-fold agnihotra belonging to the Virāj is offered. Mounted step by step, it leads him to the heavenly world who, knowing thus, eats and drinks, feeds and gives to drink. But if one without this knowledge offers the agnihotra, it is just as if one were to push aside the embers and offer into ashes—such would that be, such would that be.
