paśyanti
indrajālavadityato yadvedeṣvabhihitaṃ
tatsatyaṃ yadvedeṣūktaṃ tadvidvāṃsa upajīvanti
tasyādbrāhmaṇo nāvaidikamadhīyītāyamarthaḥ syāditi
like a trick of magic. Therefore, what is declared in the Vedas is the truth; on what is spoken in the Vedas the wise live. Therefore a Brahmin should not study non-Vedic [texts]; this should be the purpose.
7.10.p1
etadvāva tatsvarūpaṃ nabhasaḥ khe'ntarbhūtasya yatparaṃ tejastattredhā'bhihitamagnā
This indeed is the true form of the space inside the ether: the supreme splendor. It is declared threefold: in fire,
7.10.p2
āditye prāṇa etadvāva tatsvarūpaṃ nabhasaḥ khe'ntarbhūtasya yadomityetadakṣaram
in the sun, and in the vital breath. This indeed is the true form of the space inside the ether, namely the syllable Oṃ.
7.10.p3
anenaiva tadudbudhyatyudayatyucchvasityajasraṃ brahmadhīyālambaṃ vātraiva
By this alone it awakens, rises, breathes out—an incessant support for the meditation on Brahman. Or here indeed
7.10.p4
etatsamīraṇeprakāśaprakṣepakauṣṇyasthānīyametaddhūmasyeva samīraṇe nabhasi
it takes the place of illumination, projection, and heat in the wind. Just as smoke rises into the windy space
7.10.p5
praśākhayaivotkramyaskandhātskandhamanusarati | apsu prakṣepako lavaṇasyeva
with a branch-like [plume] and follows from branch to branch, or as [salt] thrown into water [pervades], like the warmth
7.10.p6
ghṛtasya cauṣṇyamiva |abhidhyāturvistṛtirivaitadityatrodāharanti | atha
of ghee, like the expansion of one who contemplates. On this they cite: Now,
7.10.p7
kasmāducyate vaidyutaḥ
why is it called "the lightning-like"?
7.10.p8
yasmāduccāritamātra eva sarvaṃ śarīraṃ vidyotayati
Because, as soon as it is uttered, it illumines the whole body.
7.10.p9
tasmādomityanenaitadupāsītāparimitaṃ tejaḥ
Therefore, through this [syllable] Oṃ, one should venerate this boundless splendor.
7.10.p10
puruṣaścākṣuṣo yo'yaṃ dakṣiṇe'kṣiṇyavasthitaḥ
The person in the eye who resides in the right eye,
7.10.p11
indro'yamasyajāyeyaṃ savye cākṣiṇyavasthitā
this is Indra; his wife resides in the left eye.
7.10.p12
samāgamastayoreva hṛdayāntargate suṣau
Their union takes place inside the cavity of the heart;
7.10.p13
tejastallohitasyātra piṇḍa evobhayostayoḥ
the splendor thereof is indeed the mass of blood of them both.
7.10.p14
hṛdayādāyatā tāvaccakṣuṣya-sminpratiṣṭhitā
Extending from the heart, it is established in the eye;
7.10.p15
sāraṇī sā tayornāḍī dvayorekā dvidhā satī
that channel is their pathway, being one for the two, divided into two.
7.10.p16
manaḥkāyāgnimāhanti sa prerayati mārutam
The mind strikes the fire of the body; that impels the wind;
7.10.p17
mārutastūrasi caranmandraṃ janayatisvaram
and the wind moving in the chest produces a low murmur.
7.10.p18
khajāgniyogāddhṛdi saṃprayuktamaṇorhyaṇurdviraṇuḥ kaṇṭhadeśe
United in the heart by the union of ether-born fire, it is an atom of an atom; in the throat it is a double atom;
7.10.p19
jihvāgradeśetryaṇukaṃ ca viddhi vinirgataṃ mātṛkamevamāhuḥ
and know that at the tip of the tongue it is a triple atom. Emerged [from the mouth], they call it the alphabet.
7.10.p20
na paśyanmṛtyuṃ paśyati na rogaṃnota duḥkhatām
"Seeing, he sees not death, nor disease, nor sorrow;
7.10.p21
sarvaṃ hi paśyanpaśyati sarvamāpnoti sarvaśaḥ
seeing, he sees everything, and attains everything everywhere."
