2.12

They cut out its omentum and bring it forward.
Pouring melted butter over it with the ladle, the Adhvaryu says:
'Recite for the drops.'
As for the drops dripping down: the drops truly belong to all the gods;
[he does so] lest these, not properly dedicated, should go to the gods.
'Enjoy the most extensive…,' he recites,
'…speech, most delightful to the gods, offering oblations in thy mouth.'
He thus offers them into the very mouth of Agni.
'Place this our sacrifice among the immortals,' he recites as a hymn.
'Enjoy these offerings, O Jātavedas,'—thereby he prays for the acceptance of the offerings.
'Of the drops, O Agni, of fat, of clarified butter,'—for they consist of both fat and clarified butter.
'O Hotṛ, seated first, eat,'—
Agni is indeed the Hotṛ of the gods; 'O Agni, seated first, eat,' is what he says thereby.
'Rich in clarified butter, O purifier, thy drops drip of fat,'—
for they indeed consist of both fat and clarified butter.
'True to thy nature, for the feast of the gods, place for us the best desirable boon,'—thereby he prays for a blessing.
'To thee, O Agni, the drops dripping with clarified butter belong, for the wise one,'—for they do drip with clarified butter.
'The best sage, thou art kindled; become the protector of the sacrifice,'—thereby he prays for the prosperity of the sacrifice.
'To thee they drip, O Adhrigu, O mighty one, drops, O Agni, of fat, of clarified butter,'—
for they indeed consist of both fat and clarified butter.
'Praised by the sage, thou hast come with thy great light; enjoy the offerings, O wise one,'—thereby he prays for the acceptance of the offerings.
'Thy most powerful fat is taken out from the middle; we give it to thee.
Thy drops drip on the skin, O Vasu; partake of them god by god.'
With this he utters the vaṣaṭ-call over them, as in: 'O Agni, partake of the Soma!'
As for the drops dripping down: the drops truly belong to all the gods;
therefore this rain falls distributed drop by drop.
