2.41

He recites the silent recitation in six feet. Six indeed are the seasons. He thus puts the seasons in order, he attains the seasons. He recites the puroruc in twelve feet. Twelve indeed are the months. He thus puts the months in order, he attains the months. He recites: 'Forward for you to the divine Agni…' The intermediate space indeed is 'forward', for towards the intermediate space all these creatures move forward. He thus puts the intermediate space in order, he attains the intermediate space. He recites: 'Who shines brilliantly, having no predecessor…' That one indeed shone who burns up there; for there is nothing prior to him. He thus puts him in order, he attains him. He recites: 'May he [grant] us shelters for enjoyment…' Agni indeed extends shelters, [which are] foods. He thus puts Agni in order, he attains Agni. He recites: 'And may you, O brahman, favour us…' The moon indeed is the brahman. He thus puts the moon in order, he attains the moon. He recites: 'He, the inspired controller of these…' Vāyu indeed is the controller; for held by Vāyu, this intermediate space does not collapse. He thus puts Vāyu in order, he attains Vāyu. He recites: 'Whose, observant of truth, the two world-halves…' The two world-halves indeed are heaven and earth. He thus puts heaven and earth in order, he attains heaven and earth. With the final [verse] he concludes: 'Now grant us wealth consisting of thousands, having offspring, possessing nourishment!' The year, complete, indeed consists of thousands, has offspring, possesses nourishment. He thus puts the complete year in order, he attains the complete year. He offers with an offering verse. The offering verse is rain, lightning indeed; for lightning dispenses this rain, which is food. He thus puts lightning in order, he attains lightning. One who knows thus comes to consist of this, comes to consist of the deities, he does.
