A thunderbolt indeed is this vaṣaṭ-call. When he is about to utter the vaṣaṭ-call, he should direct his mind toward whomsoever he hates; on him alone he launches that thunderbolt. He utters the vaṣaṭ-call as 'ṣaṭ'. Six indeed are the seasons. He thus puts the seasons in order, he establishes the seasons. When the seasons are established, everything whatsoever that is here is established in accordance with them. He who knows thus becomes established. And as to this, Hiraṇyadan Baida used to say: 'By this he establishes these six: heaven is established in the intermediate space, the intermediate space in the earth, the earth in the waters, the waters in truth, truth in brahman, brahman in ascetic heat.' When these foundations are established, everything whatsoever that is here is established in accordance with them. He who knows thus becomes established. He utters the vaṣaṭ-call as 'vauṣaṭ'. 'Vau' is that one [the sun], 'ṣaṭ' is the seasons. He thus places him in the seasons, he establishes him in the seasons. Just as one acts toward the gods, so the gods act toward him.
