7.11

Regarding this they say: When he fasts on the New- and Full-Moon sacrifices, the gods indeed do not eat the sacrificial offering of one who is not keeping a vow. Therefore he fasts, [thinking,] "May the gods eat my sacrificial offering." One should fast on the earlier full-moon day, says the Paiṅgya [doctrine]; on the later one, says the Kauṣītaka. The earlier full-moon day is Anumati; the later is Rākā. The earlier new-moon day is Sinīvālī; the later is Kuhū. That lunar day is the one on which it sets or rises. One should fast on the earlier full-moon day. When, not discerning [it] beforehand on the new moon, he approaches the moon and sacrifices, by that they buy Soma, by that the later [day]. One should fast on the later [day]. For Soma sacrifices later offerings following Soma as deity. This indeed is divine Soma, namely the moon; therefore he should fast on the later [day].
