Now next is the circum-dying around brahman.
Whoever knows the circum-dying around brahman,
around him his hating rivals, around him his adversaries die.
This one that purifies here (the wind) is indeed brahman.
Around him these five deities die around:
lightning, rain, moon, sun, [and] fire.
Lightning, having flashed, enters into rain;
it disappears; they do not recognise it.
When one dies, then he disappears;
then they do not recognise him.
At the death of lightning, he should say:
‘May my enemy die, may he disappear, let them not recognise him!’
Quickly indeed they do not recognise him.
Rain, having rained, enters into the moon;
it disappears; they do not recognise it.
When one dies, then he disappears; then they do not recognise him.
At the death of rain, he should say:
‘May my enemy die, may he disappear, let them not recognise him!’
Quickly indeed they do not recognise him.
The moon on the New Moon [day] enters into the sun;
he disappears; they do not recognise him.
When one dies, then he disappears; then they do not recognise him.
At the death of the moon, he should say:
‘May my enemy die, may he disappear, let them not recognise him!’
Quickly indeed they do not recognise him.
The sun, going to set, enters into fire; he disappears;
they do not recognise him.
When one dies, then he disappears; then they do not recognise him.
At the death of the sun, he should say:
‘May my enemy die, may he disappear, let them not recognise him!’
Quickly indeed they do not recognise him.
Fire, blowing out, enters into wind; it disappears; they do not recognise it.
When one dies, then he disappears; then they do not recognise him.
At the death of fire, he should say:
‘May my enemy die, may he disappear, let them not recognise him!’
Quickly indeed they do not recognise him.
These deities, indeed, are born again from this very [source].
From wind, fire is born, for churned with force from breath it is born.
Having seen it, he should say:
‘May fire be born, may my enemy not be born, from here let him depart away!’
From here indeed he departs away.
From fire the sun is born.
Having seen it, he should say:
‘May the sun be born, may my enemy not be born, from here let him depart away!’
From here indeed he departs away.
From the sun the moon is born.
Having seen it, he should say:
‘May the moon be born, may my enemy not be born, from here let him depart away!’
From here indeed he departs away.
From the moon rain is born.
Having seen it, he should say:
‘May rain be born, may my enemy not be born, from here let him depart away!’
From here indeed he departs away.
From rain lightning is born.
Having seen it, he should say:
‘May lightning be born, may my enemy not be born, from here let him depart away!’
From here indeed he departs away.
This is that circum-dying around brahman.
This circum-dying around brahman,
Maitreya Kauṣārava proclaimed to King Sutvan Kairiśaya Bhārgāyaṇa;
around him five kings died, and then Sutvan attained greatness.
His observance is:
He should not sit down before his enemy; if he thinks [the enemy] is standing, he should just stand.
He should not lie down before his enemy; if he thinks [the enemy] is seated, he should just sit.
He should not fall asleep before his enemy;
if he thinks [the enemy] is awake, he should just stay awake. Even
if his enemy has a head of stone,
quickly indeed he lays him low, lays him low.
