Then, in that there is an udumbara throne-seat, an udumbara cup, and an udumbara branch—the udumbara is vigor and proper food;
thereby he establishes vigor and proper food in him.
Then, in that there is curds, honey, and clarified butter—that is the essence of waters and plants;
thereby he establishes the essence of waters and plants in him.
Then, in that there are waters [fallen] during sunshine—waters [fallen] during sunshine are splendour and priestly lustre;
thereby he establishes splendour and priestly lustre in him.
Then, in that there are young sprouts and malted grain—that is the form of nourishment, strength, and procreation;
thereby he establishes nourishment, strength, and procreation in him.
Then, in that there is surā—that is the form of royal power, and also the essence of food;
thereby he establishes in him the form of royal power and the essence of food.
Then, in that there is dūrvā grass—dūrvā grass is the royal power of plants, and the nobleman is royal power.
For living here in his realm, the kṣatriya is, as it were, firmly spread out, firmly established, as it were,
just as dūrvā grass is spread out on the earth with its shoot-roots, firmly established, as it were.
In that there is dūrvā grass,
thereby he establishes in him the royal power of plants and a foundation.
These things that depart from him when he has sacrificed,
those he establishes in him, and with those he makes him complete.
Then he places a goblet of surā in his hand,
[with the verse:] 'Purify yourself, O Soma, with your sweetest, most intoxicating stream, pressed for Indra to drink.'
Having placed it, he causes him to pronounce the propitiation:
'Distinctly, indeed, has your seat been made, established by the gods; do not unite in the highest heaven! / You, surā, are fiery; this King Soma—do not harm him, both entering your own womb.'
This is the distinction between drinking Soma and drinking surā.
Having drunk, he should give it to whomever he considers a friend, for that is the form of a friend;
thereby in the end he establishes it in a friend, and thus he is established in a friend.
He who knows this is established.
