He should not touch the verse [with pause].
If he were to touch the verse, he would cut off the seed.
He sings with three liftings.
With the first lifting he grasps the out-breath; with the second, the in-breath; with the third, the diffused breath.
He sings with three liftings.
With the first lifting he grasps himself; with the second, his wife; with the third, offspring.
He sings with three liftings.
With the first lifting he ascends this world; with the second, the intermediate space; with the third, that [world].
He who, knowing thus, sings with three liftings, conquers for the world of his rival.
He who should wish to cut off the world of his rival should sing with two liftings.
Swiftly his hateful rival is defeated; he himself attains prosperity.
Yet he is liable to die prematurely,
for he departs from the vital breaths, from the threefold lifting.
He should wish to act just in such a way that he might attain a full lifespan.
He should seek to cut off the world of his rival by another means;
he should sing with three liftings only.
He should not utter the hiṃ-sound.
If he were to utter the hiṃ-sound, he would cut off the seed with the thunderbolt that is the hiṃ-sound.
