The gods and the Asuras, engaged in conflict, did not conquer for a long time. Bṛhaspati was the purohita of the gods, Uśanas Kāvya of the Asuras. So whatever brahman was performed on this side was performed on the other side. That equal brahman did not decide [the victory]. Now the three-headed Gandharva knew of the victory between them. He was envious. He had a floating boat-city in the waters. Indra noticed that: 'The three-headed one knows of our victory.' He approached his wife for the sake of this very victory. He said to her: 'Ask your husband: "These gods and Asuras, engaged in conflict, have been so for a long time; which of them will conquer?"' Just as the two were conversing, he arrived. He clung to the deck of that boat, having become a leech or a blade of grass. She asked her husband: 'These gods and Asuras, engaged in conflict, have been so for a long time; which of them will conquer?'
