When Prajāpati created the Bṛhat and the Rathantara, he saw mind first as the Bṛhat.
He uttered speech as the Rathantara.
Because he uttered speech as the Rathantara, therefore the Rathantara obtained precedence in union.
Now, because he saw mind first as the Bṛhat, therefore they are named 'the Bṛhat and the Rathantara.'
Mind is indeed first, then speech.
Mind is the Bṛhat, speech is the Rathantara.
The verse is the Rathantara, the sāman is the Bṛhat.
The brahman is the Rathantara, the lordly power is the Bṛhat.
This [earth] is the Rathantara, that [heaven] is the Bṛhat.
Whatever shakes, as it were, that belongs to the Rathantara; whatever is firmly established, that belongs to the Bṛhat.
The cattle with teeth in one jaw belong to the Rathantara; those with teeth in both jaws belong to the Bṛhat.
The lightning that is horizontal belongs to the Rathantara; that which is vertical belongs to the Bṛhat.
Gathering the greatness of the Rathantara, one should chant the Udgītha with the Rathantara: 'Whatever greatness is yours in fire, whatever in the chariot, whatever greatness is yours in thunder, and whatever greatness is yours in wind, unite with that, Rathantara; become full of wealth for us!'
It becomes endowed with wealth for the Udgātṛ, endowed with wealth for the sacrificer, endowed with wealth for his offspring.
