They said: 'Let us divide this.'
They did not agree on its division.
They said: 'Let us ask Prajāpati.'
They asked Prajāpati.
Prajāpati said: 'This desirable wealth belongs to all of you alike; with this they will praise all of you together;
this will belong to all of you; do not divide it.'
In that they praise on gāyatrī [verses], thereby it belongs to Agni,
for the gāyatrīs are Agni.
In that it is the midday pṛṣṭha, thereby it belongs to Indra.
In that they praise on [verses] containing 'ka', thereby it belongs to Prajāpati.
In that it is unexpressed, thereby it belongs to the All-Gods.
In that they praise for the Maitrāvaruṇa, thereby it belongs to Mitra and Varuṇa.
Therefore this Vāmadevya belongs to cattle.
He should chant the udgītha without trembling, for the non-scattering of cattle.
If he were to chant while trembling, he would scatter cattle.
Regarding this they say: 'Covered, he should chant without trembling, lest a spectator speak evil against me.'
That is of the nature of a shed.
Covered indeed, he should chant without trembling.
