tasmādu hemannuṣṇāḥ kūpyā apa udāharanti
evaṃ ha vā eṣa prajāpatissaṃvatsaraḥ prajā bibharti
atha ha vā etaṃ saumyaṃ carumāharanti
yaddha vā udgāturyajña ūnaṃ vātiriktaṃ vā kurvato mīyate yamalokaṃ ha vā asya
tadgacchati
taddhāpi mṛtodīriṇa āhuryamasyaitatsabhāyāmapaśyāma iti
tadetena punarāhriyate yadetaṃ saumyaṃ carumāharanti
taṃ hāvekṣeta
yanme mano yamaṃ gataṃ yadvā me aparāgatam
rājñā somena tadvayaṃ punarasmāsu dadhmasi
manasi me cakṣuradhāścakṣuṣi me manaḥ
āyuṣmatyā ṛco mācchaitsi | mā sāmno bhāgadheyādviyoṣam
iti
taddhāpi chāyāṃ paryavekṣetātmano'praṇāśāya
atho sarpiṣo'kṣyorādadhīta cakṣūṣa āpyāyanāya
tadapi vijñānamasad
ya ātmānaṃ na paripaśyedapetāsuḥ sa syāt
tasmātsatyādapyājyaṃ bhūya ānīya paryevātmānaṃ didṛkṣeta sarvasyāyuṣo'varuddhyai

Therefore also, in winter they draw warm water from the well.
Thus indeed this Prajāpati, the year, supports creatures.
Now, they bring this cooked offering to Soma.
For whatever of the Udgātṛ's sacrifice, as he performs it, is defective or redundant, that goes to the realm of Yama.
Regarding that, those who have revived from death even say, "We saw this in Yama's assembly hall."
By this, it is brought back, in that they bring this cooked offering to Soma.
He should look into it:
"Whatever mind of mine has gone to Yama, or whatever of mine has departed,
by King Soma we place that back into ourselves.
You have set my eye in my mind, my mind in my eye.
Do not cut me off from the life-bearing verse; may I not be deprived of the share of the sāman."
He should also gaze at his shadow, for the non-loss of himself.
Then he should apply clarified butter to his eyes, to nourish the eyesight.
This too is a sign of danger:
he who does not see himself would be one whose life has departed.
Therefore, having brought even more ghee than is needed, he should try to look at himself, to secure the full lifespan.
