yadu harivarṇa āṅgiraso'paśyattasmāddhārivarṇamityākhyāyate
One seized by ogres should use the Hārivarṇa as the brahman's sāman.
When the descendants of Aṅgiras were going to the heavenly world, ogres followed them from these worlds.
They desired: 'May we strike away the ogres.'
Harivarṇa Āṅgirasa saw this sāman.
With it he praised.
With it they struck away the ogres from these worlds.
With 'hariśriyam' [they struck them away] from this world, with 'virājasi' from the intermediate space, with 'dive-dive' from yonder world.
Then having struck away the ogres from all these worlds, they ascended to the heavenly world.
Having struck away the ogres from all these worlds, he ascends to the heavenly world who knows thus.
And because Harivarṇa Āṅgirasa saw it, therefore it is called the Hārivarṇa.
