On her lap there was no hair.
And that was born.
He pulled her through the nave of a chariot wheel;
she became an iguana.
He pulled her through the nave of a cart;
she became a chameleon.
He pulled her through the yoke-hole;
she became a lizard.
About this, this [verse] is recited:
'Through the nave of the chariot, through the nave of the cart, through the yoke-hole, O Śatakratu, / having cleansed Apālā three times, O Indra, you made her skin like the sun.'
And of all forms, whatever was the most beautiful form, that form became hers.
This is a sāman that wins desires.
She indeed desired that desire,
and that desire was granted to her.
Whatever desire one has when praising with this sāman, that desire is granted to him.
Because Apālā Ātreyī saw it, therefore it is called Āpāla.
