Setting up the fires, he should fetch out [the fire] early in the morning.
Twice he offers in the evening, twice in the morning.
Four oblations are completed.
Four-footed indeed are cattle, both domestic and wild.
In this way, he pays them back according to their expectation.
This indeed is death, which is named Agni the Licker.
Having pacified him by means of those oblations, he conquers the earth among worlds, Agni among gods.
He ascends to union, to co-existence with the god Agni, who, knowing thus, offers the fire-offering.
Mounting smoke as a chariot, he journeys from there toward co-existence with Vāyu.
He offers for two days.
Eight oblations are completed.
Eight-hoofed indeed are cattle, both domestic and wild.
In this way, he pays them back according to their expectation.
This indeed is death, which is named Vāyu the Swift.
Having pacified him by means of those oblations, he conquers the atmosphere among worlds, Vāyu among gods.
He ascends to union, to co-existence with the god Vāyu, who, knowing thus, offers the fire-offering.
