He said: 'Alas! What on earth is this?' They said to him: 'Ask your father Varuṇa; he will explain this to you.' He arrived at a fourth [place]. Two women guarded great wealth. He said: 'Alas! What on earth is this?' They said to him: 'Ask your father Varuṇa; he will explain this to you.' He arrived at a fifth [place]: a river of blood and a river of ghee flowing side by side. That which was a river of blood, a black, naked man armed with a club guarded it. Then that which was a river of ghee, for it golden men with golden cups bailed out all desires. He said: 'Alas! What on earth is this?' They said to him: 'Ask your father Varuṇa; he will explain this to you.' He arrived at a sixth [place]: five rivers, rich in lotuses, rich in white lotuses, flowing with sweet-water. In them there was dancing and singing, the sound of the lute, troops of apsarases, fragrant perfume, [and] a great sound. He said: 'Alas! What on earth is this?' They said to him: 'Ask your father Varuṇa; he will explain this to you.'
