atha yadanyadvindettena juhuyādatho khalvāhuḥ -
having raked out the hot ashes of the Gārhapatya [fire], he should pour it out silently in them. That is neither offered nor un-offered. He should pour water after it; with water indeed he reaches it. Then with whatever else he finds, with that he should offer. Now they also say: If the milked [milk] should become impure, what is the action in that case? What is the expiation? On whatever embers he was going to place it, having pushed them back, on them he should pour it out silently. That is neither offered nor un-offered. He should pour water after it; with water indeed he reaches it. Then with whatever else he finds, with that he should offer. Now they also say: If it should become impure while set on [the fire], what is the action in that case? What is the expiation? In that he pours it on them, by that it is offered; and in that he puts them out, by that it is un-offered. He should pour water after it; with water indeed he reaches it. Then with whatever else he finds, with that he should offer. Now they also say:
1.55.p1
- yatprāguddrutamamedhyamāpadyeta kiṃ tatra karma kā prāyaścittiriti
— if it should become impure when he has run forward, what is the action in that case? What is the expiation?
1.55.p2
tadu haike hotavyameva manyante pretametannaitasyāhomaḥ kalpata iti vadantaḥ
And on that point some think: 'It must indeed be offered,' saying: 'This has departed; for this, non-offering is not suitable.'
1.55.p3
atha haike'dbhirabhyāsicya parāsiñcanti
Then some, having poured water on it, pour it away.
1.55.p4
tadu tathā na kuryāt
One should not do it in that way.
1.55.p5
yo ha tatra brūyātparāṅvā ayamidamagnihotramasiñcatparāsekṣyate'yaṃ yajamāna
If someone there should say: 'Turned away, this one poured away this fire-offering; this sacrificer will be poured away,'
1.55.p6
iti tathā haiva syāt
it would surely be so.
