With the limbs of the gods, indeed, he pushes it forward. Bṛhaspati, indeed, pushed this forward in the beginning. He was deprived of form and spiritual luster. He considered: ‘What is the expiation for this?’ He found it in the wooden trough itself. He touched it [saying]: ‘You are the protector of the body; protect my body! You are the bestower of luster; bestow luster on me! You are the bestower of life; bestow life on me! You are the bestower of vigor; bestow vigor on me!’ Whatever of his self is diminished there, that is filled up by this. The Udgātṛ touches it with this very formula: ‘You are the protector of the body; protect my body! You are the bestower of luster; bestow luster on me! You are the bestower of life; bestow life on me! You are the bestower of vigor; bestow vigor on me!’ Whatever of his self is diminished here, that is filled up by this very formula. Twofold, indeed, is this: the spiritual power and the temporal power. Both are in the wooden trough. He who knows thus secures both spiritual power and temporal power.
