"May that which is a divine pair, a generative power, generate me," [he thinks].
Its stomas are interwoven; indeed, from an interwoven pair offspring and cattle are generated,
for propagation alone.
Its two sāmans are both the Bṛhat and the Rathantara.
That both are the Bṛhat and the Rathantara is indeed a divine pair, a generative power.
"May that which is a divine pair, a generative power, generate me," [he thinks].
Its pavamānas are the Chandomas.
The Chandomas are indeed cattle.
Cattle are a generative power.
"May that which is a generative power generate me," [he thinks].
Its brāhmaṇācchaṃsin's sāman is the Mānava.
The brāhmaṇācchaṃsin's sāman is indeed brahman.
The sacrificer's desire is this: namely, the brāhmaṇācchaṃsin's sāman. In his own sphere they thereby prosper the sacrificer with desires.
It is an Ukthya.
Offspring and cattle are indeed the ukthas.
Offspring and cattle are a generative power.
"May that which is a generative power generate me," [he thinks].
2-3.108.p1
atho āhuranviṣṭīnāṃ hedvā eṣa eko yajñakraturiti
Now they also say: "Indeed, this one is a sacrificial rite of the seekings."
2-3.108.p2
sa yassaṃvatsarabhṛtā vāsaṃvatsarabhṛtā vāgninā cityena yajeta sa etena yajeta
If he should sacrifice with a fire that is to be piled, whether it has been borne for a year or not borne for a year, he should sacrifice with this.
2-3.108.p3
sadyo haivāsya saṃvatsara ṛtuśo'rdhamāsaśo māsaśo rātriśo'nviṣṭo bhavati
In a single day, the year is sought by him season by season, half-month by half-month, month by month, and night by night.
2-3.108.p4
tadyatpṛṣṭhyasya ṣaḍahasya stomā bhavantyṛtavo vai pṛṣṭhāni saṃvatsara
Now, because there are the stomas of the pṛṣṭhya six-day rite—the pṛṣṭhas are indeed the seasons; the year
2-3.108.p5
ṛtavastenartuśaḥ
is the seasons—thereby [it is sought] season by season.
2-3.108.p6
atha yatpañcadaśa stotrāṇi bhavanti pañcadaśa vārdhamāsasya rātrayastenārdhamāsaśaḥ
Then, because there are fifteen chants—fifteen indeed are the nights of a half-month—thereby [it is sought] half-month by half-month.
2-3.108.p7
atha yattriṃśatstutaśastrāṇi bhavanti triṃśanmāsasya rātrayastena māsaśaḥ
Then, because there are thirty chant-and-recitations—thirty are the nights of a month—thereby [it is sought] month by month.
2-3.108.p8
atha yattrīṇi ṣaṣṭiśatāni stotriyā bhavanti tāvatīḥ saṃvatsarasya rātrayastena
Then, because there are three hundred and sixty chant-verses—that many are the nights of the year—thereby
2-3.108.p9
rātriśaḥ
[it is sought] night by night.
