Now, among the gods, Fire was his dearest friend, as it were.
He said to Fire: 'Do you sacrifice for me!'
'So be it,' he said.
'I will now search among the gods for someone with whom I might sacrifice for you.'
He did not find anyone among the gods with whom he might sacrifice for him.
He said: 'I do not find anyone among the gods with whom I might sacrifice for you.'
'Then do you yourself sacrifice for me!'
'So be it.'
Fire extended this Agniṣṭut from out of himself.
With it he sacrificed for him.
It immediately burned away all his evil.
Just as a snake would cast off its skin, just as one would pull a reed out of the muñja grass, in the very same way he was released from all evil.
He who burns yonder, having struck away evil, is indeed Indra.
He who has been repeatedly defamed, who has been accused, should sacrifice with this.
It immediately burns away all his evil.
Just as a snake would cast off its skin, just as one would pull a reed out of the muñja grass, in the very same way he is released from all evil.
